Labster is a company dedicated to developing fully interactive advanced lab simulations based on mathematical algorithms that support open-ended investigations. They combine these with gamification elements such as an immersive 3D universe, storytelling and a scoring system which stimulates students' natural curiosity and highlights the connection between science and the real world. In the CSU, Professor Hamadani at San Marcos has recently experimented with the Labster modules in his course.
Smart Science Education Inc. (SSEI) has created the world's only online hands-on science "labs," a cloud-delivered service. This patented system allows students to take their own individual data from prerecorded videos of real experiments and see the data immediately displayed in both tabular and graphical forms. It also provides built-in pre-exploration assessments, post-exploration assessments, and online activity (lab) reports. Watch a You-Tube video of Smart Science Online Labs.
eScience Labs Provides students a traditional lab experience geared towards online success. eScience labs are Science lab experiments packaged in a lab kit with virtual lab manuals that many faculty have come to appreciate as a component of the hands-on approach to online learning. For more information see the eScience Labs Product Catalog (PDF)
MacMillan offers a suite of solutions designed to improved student preparedness, engagement and understanding. Many of their products can be used as is, or customized to provide laboratory faculty the flexibility and choice to craft a solution that fits their teaching approach.
Late Nite Labs (LNL) produces simulation technology for superior science education and training. We create best-of-class products for high school, college and distance learning programs that enhance the instruction and learning of science subjects. We currently create Web-based chemistry and biology laboratory simulations. The LateNite Virtual Labs - the REACTOR™ and RADIANCE™ lab simulations enable students to grasp concepts and techniques while reducing costs for science instruction providers. Professor Sathianathan's work provides an example of using Late Nite Labs module in her Chemistry course at CSU Fullerton.

ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics she is most ready to learn. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained. ALEKS courses are very complete in their topic coverage and ALEKS avoids multiple-choice questions. A student who shows a high level of mastery of an ALEKS course will be successful in the actual course she is taking.
ALEKS is a web-based system used in determining the preparation, placement and assessment of in-coming students in Math for upper division courses. This online program can also be used in determining student's preparation for upper level courses in the science disciplines. The program is able to diagnose and adapt to a student's developing knowledge and skills, and provides precise feedback when mistakes are made. The student proceeds with learning a new topics when mastery is achieved from prior subject assessment. ALEKS is inexpensive - and no site-licensing is required - only an access code purchased by the student for a nominal fee.
